Plans & Vibes Archive - Why I plan and goals that will ACTUALLY get you out of bed in the morning

Why I plan… well for a few reasons…

1. I mean, its aesthetically pleasing isn’t it? Whether you’re into lots of stickers and colours, or you like a clean/minimal look, there is something so satisfying about tapping into your crafty side and creating something for yourself.

2. It makes me feel like i have my shit together - in this day and age, it is so easy to feel overwhelmed with trying to balance and maintain work, career (yes i see them separate), family, friends, a clean house, wellness, self-care etc etc. By planning it out - whether daily, weekly or even monthly, it is much easier to visualise HOW you can go about balancing life.

which leads me to…

3. Goals. The word gets thrown around a lot these days, and I don’t know about you, but I find that it can be tough to try to define an overall ‘goal statement’ for every aspect of my life. But ultimately what it comes down to is simple. What do you want, and why do you want it? Then use THAT statement to define your goal.

For example…

Health-wise. It might be ‘my goal is to lose 10kgs in 3 months’. Now i have to say, that statement in itself is not going to get me out of bed to go for a run when the sun isn’t even up yet. Ugh, I’m exhausted at the thought of it.

So let’s think deeper than that. If you lost 10kgs, what would that really mean for you? How would your life be better?

Would you have more energy to keep up with your kids? Would you sleep better? Would you fit into that old pair of jeans that makes you feel hot-to-trot? I am pretty sure ‘getting to get involved in the fun activities with my kids’ is going to get you out of bed a lot easier than ‘losing 10 kgs’.

Goals and my planner

So to keep these front of mind, and on track each of the areas in my planner has goals associated with it:

Section 1 - Personal Schedule - this includes goals associated with spending time with family and friends.

Section 2 - Health - this includes goals around fitness, diet and self-care.

Section 3 - Lists - my lists section includes list of things i want to buy, or activities i want to do. So this section can actually relate to financial goals, as well as linking back to the goals in my health or personal sections.

Section 4 - Work - now i have work/task related goals that i want to achieve, but even bigger than this i have my career goals. That way when i set up the schedule and tasks for the week i have my career goals front of mind. I always ensure i am building towards my next step in my career so i don’t get caught up in BAU (business as usual) and get stuck and bored in my job. I find this works for me, because even the not-so-fun tasks associated with my day job are giving me skills and experience that i will take into my next challenge.

This is a very quick and dirty overview of why i plan and how i use my planner to always incorporate my goals in each area of my life. If you would like more information or would like me to go into more details let me know in the comments below! :)
